gingham

2607067043_1d5d284335_3 today i'm attempting to pack for a month and a half long vacation.  i've limited myself to one tupperware container of fabric, and i'm having a hard time deciding what stays and what goes.  how will i know what project i want to do in a month? the closest fabric store to where  we're staying is 27 miles, so i need to choose wisely.

decisions, decisions...

plaid

Plaid
this weekend went by way too fast, and i hardly got anything finished. i did relax and have a great time at the prom, but now it's sunday and my projects are still staring at me from my ironing board and work table. don't you hate that feeling?

i did actually use the sewing machine tonight (for the first time in about a month) to try out a vintage pattern i got at goodwill for a bermuda bag.  i got as far as the lining, but i'm not satisfied with it enough to go and staple gun it to my wooden handles, so i'm going to keep trying. i also think i found another project that will put my vintage plaid shirt collecting to good use.

have a great week! i know for me it's going to be a busy one.

the countdown has begun

Springflowersspring is here...finally.  i'm worried, though, that we're going to skip right by it and jump into summer.  it's supposed to be 74 degrees today--i need at least 2 weeks of jacket/non-sweaty weather for it to count as spring.

my illustrator class is so good.  i'm actually learning how to draw in illustrator, which is something that totally and completely intimidates me.  right now, i just work in photoshop (poorly) but hopefully by the end of this i can be creating my gocco designs in illustrator.

off to work---31 days of school left!!

back to work i go...

Pinvintagefabric spring break is over, so it's back to work today.  i'm happy to have my routine back, and the sooner we start back with school the faster summer gets here.

i finished really organizing my craft studio (i'm calling it a studio now instead of a room in the hopes that i will use it more.)  it sounds much more serious to say, "i'm going to work in my studio today" as opposed to, "i'm going to work in my room today." no?

i did manage to do a smidge of thrifting over the break and found these vintage table cloths.  i can't wait to make a bag out of the bottom one, and who knows what the top one will be.

hope you all have a wonderful week!

i heart ikea.

i'm overwhelmed by all the giveaway love! i have so enjoyed reading all your (really, really, really nice) comments, and visiting your creative blogs.  if i'd known all i had to do was give away free stuff to meet all you nice folks, i would have done it much sooner!

my trip to ikea was very successful, and by successful i mean that i spent way too much money.  all of the items in my cart were basically $7.99 or less, so when the cashier read off my ridiculously high total, i went into a state of shock and robotically swiped my debit card. i immediately stumbled over to the freezer of swedish meatballs and jars of lindonberry where i fervently totaled everything up again on my phone.  surely the total was an accident. surely the nice cashier must have inadvertently rung up my sommar pot holders as the klappsta chair...right? wrong. so i guess this is the last trip to ikea for me for a very long time.

but behold the amazing stash of fabric! thanks to this fabric, i will be eating spaghetti o's and hot pockets until i get paid again. but somehow it seems worth it.

fabric and family

Grandpacards_2it's march! it's not snowing! i didn't wear a coat today! can you tell i'm excited?  i had such a great weekend, despite not much sewing at all.  i ran into some more issues with my wine bags, which is pretty typical for me to do after i think i've got it all figured out.  so it was nice to get out of town on saturday with my cousin to go visit our grandpa.  we played cards, ate some lunch, listened to some great stories, and after the visit maggie and i hit up all the thrift stores in town.  Springfabric
i came home with one cardboard box and one bag filled with vintage goodness. i definitely hit my thrifting stride this weekend, and got to catch up with a couple pretty important family members.  i also got my fabric order from sew mama sew in the mail--very spring-y and fresh. i'm hoping all this positive energy will carry over into the week.

ready to go

Packedup this weekend felt really long, but i didn't get nearly enough accomplished.  i think having two snow days last week made friday feel more like monday, which threw off the rest of the weekend.  at any rate, i did manage to get both my swap contributions packed up and ready to be shipped out tomorrow.

i also have been working on getting some things together for my etsy store.  i don't know how anyone manages to have a job, a social life, and a fully stocked etsy store.  it doesn't seem possible at this point, but hopefully i can get my act together.

70sfabric it seems like my theme for thrifting lately has been straight up 70's.  normally i pass on the overly orange, brown and green linens and fabric, but this bunch seemed to call to me.  the two brown and white ones in the middle of the stack are giant pillowcases with really nice trees and a not too tacky sunset in the middle.  i have no idea what i'll do with them, but i'm sure i can make room in my fabric stash that has now grown over into the laundry room.

new fabric

Awesomefabric getting a fabric order in the mail is one of the small pleasures in life.  yes, i paid for it and know it is coming, but when it gets here i can't help but let out a little squeal and rip into the package as if it were christmas.  i especially felt that way this afternoon when my package from sew mama sew came.  i don't know if i will get up the guts to actually cut into this fabric right away--maybe i'll just look at it for a while and save it up for just the right project. my good friend lauren used to do that with her good bottles of wine until she read somewhere that you need to let the wine make the occasion, not the other way around...so maybe i'll let this fabric make the occasion.
