this weekend felt like it was over in the blink of an eye...two blinks, tops. i did manage to organize and clean up the craft room, though, which was on the top of my list. since i've been hording vintage patterns and buying new ones, too, i've been looking for a way to store them. the whole shove-them-in-a-box-and-dig-around-in-it-when-i-need-to-find-one method wasn't working too well anymore.
i had visions of buying a file cabinet and organizing not only my patterns but also my files and important papers all together. those visions were crushed when i saw how expensive file cabinets are, and combined that with the cost of files and folders and all that. i decided to go with plan b--also known as the cheap route.
i found a great resource for pattern organization on this site. i originally wanted to put all my patterns in binders, but they were so bulky that i could only fit 1/4th of my patterns in one binder. instead of having four stuffed binders, i decided to go with a binder/file box combo.
i started by organizing my patterns into three categories; dresses, tops and accessories (i avoid pants like the plague, so no need for that category.) the pattern jacket went into the binder, and the corresponding pieces and instructions found a home in a gallon size ziplock bag. the bags were tucked away in the hanging file folder with corresponding labels. i'm really happy with how it turned out, and i can easily transfer the hanging files into a real file cabinet if i come across one at goodwill or when i become rich and can afford a new one...whichever comes first.
